current affairs

Teacher - Saani Bennetts

This class will combine a elements of media studies and an exploration of current events. We will look at behind the scenes at how current affairs are presented in the media, techniques used in current affairs reporting, the notion of bias and other critical thinking concepts. We will also be delving into some relevant current events through discussion and a range of hands-on, engaging activities. The current events we explore will be appropriate and relevant to the age of the students and will largely be taken from Behind the News, an ABC program widely used in schools. This class will cover a variety of outcomes from both English and Humanities & Social Sciences, as well as helping students develop the kinds of critical and analytical thinking skills that will be useful in further studies (such as senior high school or university) as well as in life.
