What is HBLN?
The Home-Based Learning Network (HBLN) was established in 1990 and incorporated in Western Australia in1994 as a non-profit organization manned by volunteers. HBLN is designed to meet the growing needs of home based learners in Western Australia which is approximately 1,800 families. The Objects of the Network are to:
- provide social contact and support for people involved in home based education
- endeavour to foster closer cooperation between home based learners and the wider community
- obtain or provide any rights, privileges, concessions, facilities or amenities for the educational benefit of home based students and their families
- be a non-party political and non-sectarian organisation
Our aim is to continually expand our support services for both metropolitan and country members, and in an effort to do this HBLN offers a range of resources.
From our quarterly magazine Learning Matters, discounts for members, information sessions, sporting events, camps, trade fair, end of year concerts and a growing resource library just to mention a few.
The HBLN website is updated regularly, and we encourage members to frequently log in and see what’s new. We welcome ideas for the site, and if you feel you have one that will benefit the community as a whole, please use the contact link on the menu for our web master.
Over the coming months our site will be playing a growing role in keeping our membership apprised of what we are doing and how they can benefit,so be sure to check back often for details of new activities, special offers, information sessions and workshops, or just browse the online library and check out a book.
Membership of the HBLN costs $30 per year per family and includes a 12 month subscription to the quarterly newsletter Learning Matters as well as free access to HBLN's extensive library.
The Network is maintained by home educating volunteers. Members are encouraged to be actively involved in the support and running of the network.
