Unit Studies is an approach where one theme is concentrated on for several days or weeks, encompassing all of the learning areas. For example, a unit study on penguins could cover reading books such as Mr Popper's Penguins for English and Literature; and involve math games using penguins as counters, etc. Science could involve learning about the habitat of the Antarctic, which could also involve experiments with the different forms of water; and so on. It's an extremely good method for continuity and to cement learning in those children who struggle with generalisation skills.
